We already know by now the basic skin care products that we need to achieve a healthy glowing skin. We know that we need facial cleansers, toners, moisturizers, and sun screens for our daily skin routine. What we are not aware of is the need of serums.
What are serums?
It’s important to include serum to your skincare routine because it is an essential part of your anti-aging regime. Serums are loaded with nutrients, glycerin, natural ingredients, ceramides, and vitamins. They contain ingredient particles that are much smaller compared to those ingredients found in moisturizers which allow them to get past the outer layer of the skin and penetrate deeper into your skin.
Serums contain the highest concentration of active ingredients such as vitamins, peptides, stem cells, and other beneficial minerals compared to moisturizers and cleansers that only contain between 5 to 10%. It means that with serums, you can get the results that you want easily such as reduce fine lines, get rid of dark spots, brighten, even the tone, or firm your skin.
Proper use of serums
Wash your face with a facial cleanser first and then use a toner afterwards. Leave it damp on your skin before applying serum. This will allow the active ingredients to penetrate deep into your skin. Wait for the skin to fully absorb the serum before applying a moisturizer.
Benefits of serum
Each type of serum aims to solve different skin problems but all serums contain high levels of nourishing ingredients that help restore hydration, moisture, and elasticity to the skin while regulating the production of oil.
Serums are usually water based which have a watery consistency that benefit those with oily and acne-prone skin. Serums are absorbed by the skin much faster without leaving any breakout residue.
Serums are easier to absorb compared to moisturizers and they keep the skin hydrated without adding oiliness. While keeping the skin hydrated, the skin doesn’t overproduce sebum which eventually makes the skin less oily.
Serums generally hydrate, brighten, and increase nourishment of the skin, prevent acne, and help in strengthening skin cells.
